In one year, according to the National Observatory of the Social and Solidarity Economy, the French civil society sector lost a total of 12,305 jobs. To what extent should a medico-humanitarian organization become concerned with the field of environmental health? Written in 2025, Fabrice Weissman has conducted a brief literature review on the links between health and the environment to help MSF address this question. Identifying around a dozen paradigms, he encourages the organization to pay particular attention to extreme climatic events, health crises linked to various forms of contamination, and the implications of “environmental justice.”

Declaring an epidemic is a major political and social issue capable of raising the crucial questions that could challenge the authorities’ legitimacy: have they correctly assessed the severity of the situation? On what basis have they declared an epidemic? Are they communicating in a timely manner? The experience that Médecins Sans Frontières has built up over the decades fighting epidemics seems to show that tackling the political and media crises that can accompany a health disaster means that an attempt must be made to answer these questions or, at least, not sidestep them.

The Trump administration’s attacks on the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) since 20 January 2025 have revealed the anti-humanitarian ideology of the far right ­‒ that is, the view that foreign aid is a betrayal of national interests and values. In this article, Joël Glasman discusses two historical critiques of humanitarianism: the far-right (reactionary) critique, and the progressive critique shared by a number of traditions (Marxist, socialist, feminist, Pan-Africanist, and anti-colonialist). The author stresses the importance of clearly distinguishing between these two types of critique despite the current blurring of the line between politics and the media (welcomed by reactionary critique supporters), and shows that they are polar opposites when it comes to human dignity and the equality it implies.

In this paper, Jacob Burns analyzes MSF's activities in the provision of social support.  In the introduction, he suggests a rough outline of different ‘social’ problems that MSF has turned to between the 1980s and the 2010s. The second part of the paper is a report of a field visit conducted in October – November 2023 to Goma, DRC.
