In one year, according to the National Observatory of the Social and Solidarity Economy, the French civil society sector lost a total of 12,305 jobs. In the face of the global authoritarian shift towards restricting the activities of civil society organisations, there is a need for a collective response to restore solidarity as a foundational political principle. You may find the translated version of the article written by Lucas Faure, Véronique de Geoffroy, Michaël Neuman et Raphaëlle Parizet published the 24 April 2026 here.

Declaring an epidemic is a major political and social issue capable of raising the crucial questions that could challenge the authorities’ legitimacy: have they correctly assessed the severity of the situation? On what basis have they declared an epidemic? Are they communicating in a timely manner? Joël Glasman
The Trump administration’s attacks on the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) since 20 January 2025 have revealed the anti-humanitarian ideology of the far right ‒ that is, the view that foreign aid is a betrayal of national interests and values. In this article, Joël Glasman discusses two historical critiques of humanitarianism: the far-right (reactionary) critique, and the progressive critique shared by a number of traditions (Marxist, socialist, feminist, Pan-Africanist, and anti-colonialist). The author stresses the importance of clearly distinguishing between these two types of critique despite the current blurring of the line between politics and the media (welcomed by reactionary critique supporters), and shows that they are polar opposites when it comes to human dignity and the equality it implies.
